Shipt Guided Case Study

Overview:

Shipt is an American delivery service that does its best to spark connections to show that every person counts. We were tasked to design a user experience to help users with their food items giving them a great shopping journey with Shipt. We wanted to evolve the existing Shipt app to help users better care for their food items.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Designer (Visual Design & Prototyping)

  • 3 person team

  • Remote

  • Strategy & Research

  • Brainstorming ideas

  • Presenting

Problem:

Many people lack the proper knowledge to care for their food items accurately, resulting in the worldwide problem, consumer food waste.

Our mission was food for thought:

Our solution for consumer food waste replicated the well known saying “food for thought.” We wanted to provide users with educational information on how to better care for their food items.

Interviews:

The team and I conducted two interviews to get a better understanding of our users needs, wants, and pain points.

Interview 1:

Interview 2:

Research:

My team and I conducted research on Shipt’s competitors to better inform our efforts in generating optimal solutions for our users.

Journey Map and Persona:

We created a journey map and persona to help us visualize the steps through the user experience.

Concept:

After a collaborative brainstorming session, we developed our concept, named Shipt Guided.

Shippy

For this user experience, we created a virtual assistant, Shippy! Shippy’s entire purpose is to be there for the users throughout their entire grocery shopping experience with Shipt. Helping them gain the educational information they need to better care for their food items.

Visual Design:

I took the lead on designing the home page for the virtual assistant, Shippy.

These are some of the many iterations I designed for the virtual assistant home page.

Prototype:

Upon completion of the design for Shippy’s homepage, I then began to create a prototype.

Outcomes & Lessons:

I learned a lot from this project. We changed the name of the virtual assistant from Shippy to Scout. The stakeholders loved the name of our mission, Food for thought. They said that it was very smart, relating to the problem and our concept. I was very proud of that because I love wordplay and when I came up with that idea, I was ecstatic. Overall, they loved the concept.
